April 9, 2007 at 9:36 am #29633johnnygExcellent mixture. That “Spirit of…55KSD” has been one of my top faves since I first heard that Tanner demo !
April 9, 2007 at 8:18 pm #29646bland75MemberI haven't done a top 10 in ages (in fact since the media UK forum back in 2003!) so here are 10 great JAM cuts. They are in no particular order as they just seem to be the ones I have listened to recently as picking out my ultimate top 10 jingles would take forever to decide on. Enjoy! !lol

Nice one Iain..
love the harmonies in “Stereo” on the Northsound cut and in the Radio Borders cutApril 10, 2007 at 12:55 pm #29652LenGroat
That's a GREAT compilation, and my 'Your Next Door Neighbour' line from Metro in '74 was in there. Thank you.'Hiding history, Merlin's wizzardy, and surfers having fun… '
For Pirate FM is one of those jingle lyric lines that only a British radio person could have written? I presume by Mike Powell, the 'jingle God' of that radio group at the time? And it could only have been sung that well by the JAM singers…
I think it equals my:
'Christmas is here, there's lights on the tree, but you mean more than the presents to me' from a JAM Trent package that was mentioned here a month back !
Another favourite lyric line was from the first (?) package from Viking…
'we're fishing at Grimsby, so why not take your time and bridge the Humber' ?
That WAS a mouthful !
Have I remembered the lyric correctly? It WAS year ago… and I don't have that song…

Len,the lyrics you quoted is spot on.(I prefer “Fly on the wings of progress in Hull,Birthplace of Amy Johnson” myself)

I believe both those are Standard Sound / MMI / TM -based efforts!Now…..what's going to be on the next one I wonder…..
April 10, 2007 at 1:29 pm #29658PrometheusThanks Len. You – like the Metro jingle – are legendary. Incidentally, the Pirate lyric is:
“Mining History, Merlin's Wizardry…”
It has a definite Mike Powell feel to it!

Certainly its easier to do these days! – and no more waiting for ages for one to
download at 3kb/s max!I was trying to think who did the original Top Ten idea “first time round” several
years ago?Step forward……(um…I can't remember !!!)….and take the credit!
And would they like to re-visit the “Concept” (sounds posher said like
that!) with a 2007 version?April 10, 2007 at 9:12 pm #29673bossjockMemberI couldn't download WIXY's “A very Scottish Top 10” !sad but I'm sure it was great! – you always give us quality offerings Iain!

The download counter seems to show quite a few succesful hits – if anyone else
has a problem I'll put it elsewhere too.Bossjock – I'll bung you it as an e-mail attachment!

April 11, 2007 at 6:14 pm #29695johnnygPretty much impossible to do a real Top 10 – far too many I'd want to put in, so I went for a Top 10 (& a bit :p ) of the ones that have mostly been running round my head the longest!! So a bit of a 70's Top 10 mostly – and my first montage too! Not the best, but hope you enjoy the nostalgia!

JonnoMANY thanks.. I have not heard that since about 1986 (?)…
I was surprised at the time how well produced and written it was, for 'Sue Manning Jingles' and an'English' jingle, or was it a TM track replayed over here??
Somehow they got Alfasounds Steve Butler and Sheila Gott on main vocals (they sang on every Trent package from 1980 to 1987)
When Steve sings the solo
'East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, on Viking Radio …… '
the track and backing vocals beef it up so much it's as powerful as a 7 strong vocal group stacked. He's a brilliant singer.
An interesting piece of British jingle history, though I recall the whole package sounded as if it was penned by two different writers ~ half the cuts were very inferior to the good ones.

April 11, 2007 at 7:08 pm #29698DavidHemsleyErm . . . it was Cath Baxter actually Len – she did some for Trent as well if memory serves me right
April 11, 2007 at 7:52 pm #29700LenGroat
DavidThanks for pointing out it was 'mining' not 'hiding' ….
It must be my 57 year old ears !
And David H. thanks for the correction about Cath Baxter doing the Viking package ~ my 57 year old memory… but we never used CB for Trent…
Was it a TM track?.
Len
April 11, 2007 at 7:57 pm #29701DavidHemsleyno it was custom made.
And I do have a demo for trent from Cath Baxter, or CBC CReative as it was known, somehwere.
