Can you name the company who made the new package for the group of stations
Some cuts are ok ..but they may grow on me
March 25, 2007 at 9:07 pm #29412Good Time OldieI have been trying to work that one out as well.
They sound very “Bespokey”, but sure I heard S2Blue Sarahs' voice on one of them, perhaps she was moonlighting.
Someone will know.

P.S Good luck Gav mate for the London launch tomorrow.
March 25, 2007 at 9:26 pm #29413mbMemberIt's bespoke I'm afriad.
Was hoping that GMG might try something different – now they have so many stations you think they'd go for a quality package but sticking with what they've had.
March 26, 2007 at 5:55 am #29420JingleMadMemberAuthorI just dont rate bespoke to me they are hospital radio jingles…Dont like the singing but the music ,production and the way its put together is ok..Think the best way foreward is get them to use usa voices to make the packages sound fresh for 2007
March 26, 2007 at 9:09 pm #29428rjtWhat a shame, SAGA had one or two classic JAM cuts they used as well
Bespoke aren't too bad, but wish they would differ a bit.
March 26, 2007 at 9:48 pm #29430JingleMadMemberAuthoranyone know why the group rate their work … are the packages a good price for what you get for multistation use … , I know John Myers rated Jam in the early days of Century northwest
If you look at some the usa firms and listen to the demos .. they could work a great package to work with name and format of smooth… all voices would sound great solo and in a large group sing
If he wanted to use UK companies .What about the company that do moyles work … or keep it in house use Mark Goodiers firm
March 26, 2007 at 10:22 pm #29432Liticmmm Im really not encouraged by them at all especially the news intro its so bland you can tell the news is about to start especially when Gary Burton talks all over it. Now wheres that gentleman Mr Len Groat he's working on the EMid station can you get these things changed there sir especially the news sounder,

Yes I am indeed 'working' on Smooth Radio East Midlands, and was of course interested to read the comments on the jingles here. I'm just a humble presenter though, coming out of 'retirement' to do a once a week show.I never contemplated doing a regular radio show again, but was asked to join the station by people I respect ~ they go back a long way and the heritage factor is great. Also the GMG group recognise the importance of using personality presenters who are the same vintage as the station's music. I'm sure you've seen some of the great names they have brought in.
I feel Smooth Radio is the best thing to happen to British radio for quite a few years, and was complimented to be asked to be a (small) part of it.
As regards the jingles, I think it is positive that they got them, it would have been easy to just buy voice idents, given the massive changes that had to be made, and already each Smooth Radio service has its own (excellent) website ~ http://www.smoothradio.com so you can listen to ANY of them on-line!
I suspect the jingles are a basic 'starter package' and will be added to. I must claim 'diplomatic immunity' from making any other comments, except that they are very catchy! And I'm sure the major presenters on each station will be involved in how the jingles evolve. More importantly, already, the stations have regional variations and flavours, the music is GREAT, so there is a huge potential for Smooth Radio to grow into something extremely special.
If you are in the East Midlands and want to help my ratings (!) my show is '70's Sunday', 1-3pm !

March 27, 2007 at 9:12 pm #29458ratnobMemberGreat to see you back on the air where you belong, Mr Groat. I think you've heard the GEM tribute David Barass sent Bob Dinan for his podcast:

March 27, 2007 at 9:17 pm #29459JingleMadMemberAuthorI remember you on Pic 261 …. Hope your 70's show is networked soon to all Smoothradio stations in the uk
Good Luck
March 29, 2007 at 12:45 am #29466FashionFunkSmooth jingles do not sound like Bespoke, they are far worse sounding then Bespoke, why could they not have stuck with Steve England that Saga had?
They are two plonky plonk
March 29, 2007 at 6:01 am #29467JingleMadMemberAuthorOk … anyone know who made the jingles in their bedroom………. No one likes them and no one is saying great things about the station .. so has someone sold short the idea a easy station in the uk …. May need a rethink
March 29, 2007 at 1:02 pm #29469DevawebMemberEr, I think you're talking for yourself there Barry, and not for the station? It's up to GMG to use whoever they want, and just because you don't like them doesn't mean they don't fit the vision & style of the station.
March 29, 2007 at 3:40 pm #29471JingleMadMemberAuthorChris … Why me ..there is a list of other people on this thread who dont think they suit the station… Im just one of many ….And I have held back saying they are crap… but they are poor to what “you” could have provided in dallas… If you go to other forums people dont rate the jingles too…and I'm not on those forums …
Bespoke filled a gap 5 years ago ..I didnt like them then and its good that other people feel that there are better products ,Im not putting words in their mouth
March 29, 2007 at 4:39 pm #29474DevawebMemberCos you started the thread – don't take it personally;)
March 29, 2007 at 10:51 pm #29481mbMemberI was really expecting something lush and full and evocative and melodic and memorable. If you go chasing Radio 2 then you are setting the bar pretty high I just don't think the Smooth package is up to the job – it's a real wasted opportunity. I would have liked to have heard a TM, or JAM or Groove or Reelworld or RadioScape or Wise Buddah package on air.
March 30, 2007 at 5:48 am #29484JingleMadMemberAuthorMy feelings too,
These forums talk about jingles that work on air to us “A jingle is the station”……a good jingle you can listen to 100's of times a hear something you missed the first time, I said it before ,a station package is the “headed note paper of a radio station” get it wrong and it sends the wrong message to the listener.
I too wish smoothradio would have followed the Style and route Michael Boltons points a finger too..
Everyone knew that turning four old style formats into to an Ac format was going to upset people , Yes a chris pointed out its up to the station management which company they use
Is it me …are they singing in harmoney.. It would be nice to hear your views pleaseMarch 30, 2007 at 9:25 am #29485RichMemberI suspect the jingles are a basic 'starter package' and will be added to. Len, will you be posting any of the jingle packages you produced for Trent and Gem onto Jinglemad?
Look forward to hearing them again!

Rick.March 31, 2007 at 5:21 pm #29513LiticMr Groat are you allowed to use any private jingles you have on your show
March 31, 2007 at 10:33 pm #29517robertpobjoyI must say on a personal level that I think Bespoke Jingles are generally across the board good (especially for the price) – and that It depends on what style the station wants and requires. If GMG wanted a different sound – im sure they could have asked Bespoke (or other) to adapt to what they wanted (and if they couldn't they would look elsewhere).
As for the Smooth Radio jingles, I quite like what little I have heard from the package – and personally I would like to see people on this board do better instead of making criticisms. I know many people here also like the classic “jam/pams” sound, but realistically how many commercial stations have this sound? Not many. Why? Because they sound older and many stations (along the lines of Smooth/Saga) need to move to a 'younger' audience and adopt the music style and jingles to match a younger audience and grow with them as they age- as time goes by – the music style will change – just like the jingles to match them.
just some thoughts anyhow…

ANY jingles are good in this day of bad radio!!! Im not a massive fan of Bespoke but they have done some good sounding stuff in the past, I loved the Smooth fm jingles even though I didnt think they mixed with the songs well. As for the new ones, I agree there not the best Ive heard but I think we should think ourselves lucky their not using depressing voice overs instead. Im sure GMG will add new jingles within time to make the brand stronger……never the less you cant beat Jam!!!
