I would look for the packages from the first radio station I ever worked for – WRNZ – Z-96 fm, Wrens GA. The jingles were sold as composite packages coming from the early years representing for example I'd Rather Be in Denver and Class Action. They were used on-air between 1980 and 1981. I have old dubs, but would really like to have a fresh copy from the reference tapes.

I'm hoping that one day TC will update his list of TM references to include WRNZ – Z-96's resings of The AirWorks … again I have the dubs but fresh clean copies from the reference tapes would be worth a bit of money to me.

I'm not sure what I would be willing to pay. I actually think that lowering the price from $49 would result in enough additional purchases for TC that it would more than make up for the lower price. I would order a number of packages if the price were lower. The same for JAM. I could be persuaded to pay more for JAM references, but I would only get a couple at those prices. If the price were $25 or less, I would order numerous ones over time feeling that this is reasonable compared to the price of a standard music CD.

If only Jon would actually entertain this idea. At least for stations that are long gone from the airwaves, packages that were recorded 25 + years ago, etc. But it seems like those lovely tapes are destined to lie in the vaults until I'm gone from this earth. It's sad. So much enjoyment could come from them.

WOW TC. Thanks for that post. That's really cool. So you have already processed the WRNZ files. Did you find that there were 2 sessions? We had them resing the package. The first take was not good. In fact the montage you sent contains one of the bad takes … the first cut. I used the resing version in the files attached below.

For reference, I tried to match your mix using copies of the cuts that I already have. I notice that the stereo mix in your files seems different/better. My mix may even be mono. However, the quality of the reference tape audio seems a bit weaker. I'm wondering if this is just a result of the mp3 compression used. I'm going to try to add 2 links here for comparison. One is for a 128kbps file which should theoretically be similar to yours in terms of compression issues. The other is a 320kbps file to more closely match the raw WAV audio.

I haven't posted many links here, so please let me know if they are broken. The files may not appear immediately. I've uploaded them to MediaMax, but they haven't shown up yet. When they do, I have to transfer them to the Hosted files area.

Do you know when a revised version of the TM reference list will be available?

          Thanks for all you do.

Some salient points made in your posting about JAM`s reference tapes Terry, totally agree with what has been said. D`know since the birth of Jingle Mad, this topic (re: JAM dubs) keeps re-occuring and I hope it continues to do so, to try and convince Jon about selling JAM reference dubs to us jingle lovers. The reference dub question, was one of the first questions I asked Jon when I met him for the first time a couple of years ago and I`ll keep on asking by email, by letter, by phone, by Jingle Mad etc.. !

For those of you who haven`t heard the WRNZ jingles from JAM, here`s a little sample…

I'm sure Jon Wolfert knows that parts of his back catalogue would sell like hot cakes to collectors all over the world and it would be 'a nice little earner' if he ever retires but based on his comments to me on several occasions it's all about time or lack of it.

Having produced CD's of reels for several members here I know how long it takes – and I've been lucky – the reels have all been in good condition, although 25+ years old and haven't had to baked etc and I haven't had to spend time tracing them in the vault. To dub one reel and produce a CD with a simple reference label takes about an hour – assuming no interruptions or post dub repair work.

I can also understand Jon's reluctance to start selling dubs of packages for stations/corporations that are still clients.

All I would suggest is that we should begin to form a list of packages that we really, really want and would be prepared to pay good money for and then if Jon ever floats the idea he would know where to start – the total list may run to a few hundred classic packs not the entire contents of the archive.

It would be a crying shame if the material was never released to the collector.

              We must be patient.
