I was looking through ebay the other day and came accress an advert that read

During the 1990s, in association with Phoenix Music, Take 2 Studios produced a series of quality station idents specifically recorded for Hospital Radio.

“Widely recognised as the best Hospital Radio jingles ever recorded”

Has anyone ever heard of Take 2 studios?

and the Hospital radio Jingles that are windely recognised as the best ever recorded ?

I have never heard of them back then on the hosptal radio I was with we had a few Alfasound Hosptal radio songs and I think a few from Ben Freadman with the dallas singers (when I moved house it looks like I have somehow lost the tapes of them) but never Take 2 studios

      Anyone ?

We had quite a few of these at the hospital radio station I worked for in the 90s. At the time, they were very good and worked very well. I think they were called Song ID package 1, 2, 3. Package 2 was best in my opinion as this had a combo of sung ‘hospital radio’ jingles and some sweepers. The other 2 had more sweeper-type jingles. Phoenix also released a Christmas HR package which was good and a News ID package (news theme, weather, sport, etc.)

I might be wrong here, but I think Take Two was the new name for Phoenix. The company is/was based near Stoke from what I can remember and headed up by a guy called Les Woollen. I was working in ILR a few years back and they were doing some of the Com Prod. Whether they are still in existence now I’m not sure.

Certainly at the time, Phoenix’s packages were very good and fitted in well with HR. Of course, like everything else in the world, time moves on and they sound old-fashioned. Production techniques have improved since then and some of the costs have come down so consequently we have better quality HR jingles.

Before Phoenix, the only package I can remember is “Have fun in bed, with Hospital Radio, Hos-pi-tal Rayyyyy-deeee-o”!!!!! Cheesy but a classic!!

I think there are some on the Jingle Ark site – David H will be able to point you in the right direction if you can’t find them.

I bought all the packages Take 2 had for HR – and at the time they were a god send and really made our HR station sound much better.

They were the inspiration behind the deluxe series of cuts from http://www.radio-shop.co.uk too.

I do have some of the generic stuff on Jingle Ark – but I never re-uploaded it during the last host move.

Fear not – am doing it now and it will be there in a few minutes. http://www.jingleark.co.uk/generics.html

Take 2/ Phoenix also did cuts for Signal and Sunset 102 as well. Mike Lownds site has got a number of the Signal cuts available for download, so is worth checking out .

And yes , the Male voice on their work is familiar – it’s Steve Butler – voice of god knows how many british packages by Alfasound, LBS etc etc etc !

I think the main ones are up there – I have the news tape and maybe one of the others… I’ll upload what I can here but it’s gonna take me a couple of weeks as I’m away from home! Cheers
