Hi guys, listening around I’ve picked up at least 2 BBC Local Radio stations using sung ID’s, wondering if anyone has info on who has produced the new packages for :

      BBC Radio Cornwall

      And

The New BBC Oxford 95.2 FM

The packages sound good, the Oxford one sounds kinda like a Music4 production (well the male vocalist sounds Music4) and as for the Cornwall package, well i’m not sure, not so definable to me @ least ! don’t think its Bespoke, any info greatfully rcv’d :D

BBC Local Radio imaging is sounding very good @ the mo, I’ve just this weekend driven up to Cumbria from Essex and it was East coast up & West coast down, and apart from Cumbria (which is an orchestral package sounding the same as it’s 1996 package) the state of BBC Local Radio imaging is looking or rather sounding kinda good…..

Feel free to comment on that very subject :D

By the way for anyone with an interest in BBC Local Radio imaging, I find the BBC Radio Player & BBC Local Radio Pages a great place for the TOH sequences of almost all the BBC Local Stations.

Hi, Both BBC Oxford 95.2FM and BBC Radio Cornwall packages were composed by S2 Blue.

You may be interested to now that the BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Radio Guernsey share the same music cuts, however the vocal style’s are different. BBC Radio Guernsey’s package will launch in the coming weeks.

        Best wishes,
        Chris.

          Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info about those packages. They do sound great & I wouldn’t have guessed they were S2Blue, so well done S2Blue ! I’ll keep an ear out for the Guernsey stuff as both Cornwall & Guernsey stream live 24/7 on the net.

Interesting that most new imaging on BBC Local Stations doesn’t contain the Local Radio “elements” of recent years, so no more chimes & common musical logo.

Whilst on the subject Music 4’s package sounds great on BBC Newcastle and BBC WM and BBC Radio Leeds has a cool IQ Beats package.

All I say is come on BBC Essex, must be time for change………. !!!! :D

I’m generally not a fan of instrumental jingles, but think that the current BBC GMR top of hour is fantastic, I love the way the bed builds up under the presenter into a bass heavy intro to the news. Much better IMO than the current trend for BBC locals using a take on the BBC TV news ‘pips’ theme.

Take a listen to this recording to hear it for yourself.

BBC GMR Current Top Of Hour

Is this an in house job, or can anybody name the producer?

Optomistic chimes and dramatic tones are dead.
After a fairly dull time BBC Local radio is gradually getting back to sounding a bit less “old” I like the new S2Blue stuff and the BBC Radio Leeds stuff has really grown on me. ( apart from some of the name sings which still sound a bit weak )

WM have not come up with anything as memorable or as catchy as the JAM stuff they had.
That includes the current below average package

Ahh that goes for BBC RADIO as a whole….Certainly down this end of the country anyway!

BBC Radio Shropshire has recently started using sung cuts from Groove Addicts, the vocals are a little strange a la BBC Radio Leeds, but as with the Leeds stuff they grow on you in time.

Any one that notices any jingles being used on the BBC locals please do stick a note up on here & any gossip is welcomed too.

All things considered it’s great to hear sung stuff on these stations, a few of the stations sound cool & really uptempo for the instrumental / corporate idents they use.

A word about Radio Nottingham quickly, how cool it was to hear on the way thru the east midlands that radio nottingham puts out what seems to be a dance music type show (Dean Jackson ??) it was less “in yer face” than Ritchie on all the GWR stations, but played a fair amount of chart & dance type music….. again though despite Nottingham having a good jingle package they sound quite corporate next to todays dance hits lol !

Ben, I think they GA package they are using is a custom ! the info came from a presenter at Radio Shropshire via media uk.

They obviously had the budget ! :D

P.S – anyone that gets a sharable tip-off about BBC Essex – please share, they are due for change, & keep em sung lol !

Radio Kent started using the Radio Leeds package last Monday (13/12/04). They are not sung, but voice-overed. In my opinion they were needed as the last package (also used by Radio Nottingham) had been modified and joined by another package, causing the output to sound very muddled.

As for BBC Essex getting a new package, what about Southern Counties? I liked their old package, the current one is very dull.

Yeah Bubble, i’d noticed Kent using the leeds stuff, it was rumoured a while back, but as you say they’re not sung, no harm in that but I think the id’s would have taken the lyric well. Radio Kent have flipped between sung & non-sung in their last few packages & have been known to bring in out of place elements like completely new travel & news intro’s alongside exsisting packages. Can sound very muddled ! I remember they had the 2nd package sung by Alfasound, quite dated even at the time (early 90’s) and then out of the blue this funked up travel intro materialised ! it stuck out lol

It was the car radio that alerted me to the Kent change, through RDS travel, I suppose thats one way of hearing about it !

……….. and Guernsey seems to be airing cuts the same as Cornwall but with instrumental tags :D
