I’m in the U.S., and I am often disappointed at how hard it is to find American jingle collectors…
October 12, 2004 at 4:17 am #24269duckpin
There are some of us out here – but there are many more of our friends “across the pond” collecting jingles. Some of the best stuff in my collection has come from Neal, Ben, David, Norman and others. It’s amazing – they have jingles for stations that I’ve worked at, at the times that I’ve worked at them, yet – never made dubs of. Go figure
The short answer – YES – there are a few of us out here – and S L O W L Y beginning to share the collection online. Gotta find a good place to host some of the stuff. Is the yousendit.com a good thing?

Wow! I didnt expect such a response.
I do understand the frustration with not being able to find any more US jingle collectors. I think that most people think that jingle collecting is a bit weird. Thats the way some people that I know thought of when they heard that.

It does seem that there more collectors in the UK than the US. I think that there may be just as many, but they are still closeted.
I wonder if a Jingle Day would go over as well in the United States? Hmmm.
Have a good day.

Sure if you want to licence “jingle day” for the US – PM me and we’ll see what we can come up with fee wise 😉

Do you think that something like that would be able to be done in the united states. I have often wondered.
October 12, 2004 at 5:26 pm #24280DavidHemsley
Not sure – would obviously have to be in Dallas – but who would organise it? Not me thats for certain, have enough headaches with the ones over here.
But yeah – it’s certainly something to look at for maybe next year.

I’m a Brit in the States – NJ in fact. A jinglemeet in Dallas would be wonderful!

I’d thought of doing such a thing in the past… but jingle companies tend to frown on the idea of scores of collectors parading through their domain at the same time. If so… they’d have to glue everyone’s hands into their pockets. :::laughing:::

Hey, I got an idea.
We could rent a keg of beer and pitch a tent on the front lawn of Jam or TM.
😈

C’mon Tracy! I think Jonathan would LOVE to see us – just not all at once

True, I have been through the Jam Studios, and John Wolfert is a very nice man. I went down there in 2000 when they resang HotWired for KDWB. God that was amazing watching that be put together. Everyone down there is absoultely wonderful and the singers are a great group. I think that as far as vocal quality nothing sounds better than the singers from Jam.

I’m pretty good at organising jingle events in Dallas!
(Seeing as I have just come back from there!).

All being well, I will be stateside next year, August time. I’m sure something could be arranged to be in Dallas also

Lets not forget of course that TM Century are our main sponsors here. followed by Ben Freedman Productions.
So any Jingle Mad endorsed event would have to include those as the main feature.Besides – JAM have contributed nothing to this community, whereas TM Century have been soooooo generous.
As for the JAM vocals being the best – I might have agreed with you until I heard what Ben Freedman did with a Dallas 7-group recently. Talk about close harmonies. Phew! the heat is on baby!

I have not yet heard the new work from Ben Freedman. I recently have heard his name. Can anyone send me a sample of his work. I would love to hear the harmonies.
Thanks

Well, Ben’s been doing jingles longer than JAM and has worked for most of the Dallas big boys in his time
Here is a short example of an old track brought back to life 30 years later. Concept 3 was a cool package for it’s time, and was used by Radio Luxembourg during it’s heyday.
The first cut is an original Radio Luxembourg sing using Ben’s Buffalo group – a very bold group that worked well at the time – certainly a distinctive sound. Following that is the 2004 Jingle Network version that was sung on the 27th September using a 7 piece Dallas vocal group. Different sound of course but the harmonies are superb. By the way – this was my own mix that I did from Ben’s raw elements he provided – so if you don’t like it – don’t blame Ben!

Those harmonies were damned good. I would like to hear more of his work.

MemberHi All… It’s Rob Walker, just outside Detroit Michigan…and yes, I’m a bit of a collector myself.
I’ve traded a few things with Ben Atkins, and really enjoy hearing the UK versions of the JAM jingles I grew up with!
I’ve noticed a few of the jingles from my collections making it into the montages and I think it’s great that everyone here likes to share as much as they do. Looking forward to hearing more great stuff!

Welcome Rob. Are you THE Rob Walker of the late great Q105radio.com? That was a great internet station! I miss it!
Hope to hear more from you!
October 14, 2004 at 4:14 pm #24296jkubiak
Hey I would love to make a montage of select cuts from my collection. I just dont know what program that would work for it. I am also concerned about finding a program that would not make the montage into a huge file size. Any recommendations?

MemberYep, that’s me, from the late, great Q105radio.com.
When I started working in “real” radio again I didn’t have enough time to mess with Q105… but I think I’ll bring it back some day. Thanks for the kind words, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some new jingles up for you guys to hear soon.
