Apologies if this is old News, but when we were driving around Oswestry last weekend (“where?” I hear you cry), there was a station using a few JAM cuts – made a nice change I thought. Did a quick JM search, but couldn’t see any mention here.
November 4, 2011 at 9:06 am #80787IainJohnstonMemberHmmm – are they part of the MNA Group, or associated with Muff Murfin’s Shropshire/Brum enterprises? Can’t remember which…
November 4, 2011 at 9:37 am #80784RobinBlamiresYeah they appear to be resings of the Century custom from 1998 later demoed as “The Best Mix In Denver”.
November 4, 2011 at 10:54 am #80785IainJohnstonMemberThanks N, wasn’t sure.
The Wyre etc used JAM/Steve E some years ago – do we know if they’ve used anyone else in between?November 4, 2011 at 12:34 pm #80786loujosephsThank god for JAM the rest of this station is not really listenable..
November 4, 2011 at 12:43 pm #80781jonnoMemberturning the clock back to 2005 ….

David, I don’t suppose you could re-upload the Big Edition cut please?November 4, 2011 at 1:45 pm #80778IainJohnstonMemberWell done Jonno – that helps show the value of Roy being able to succeed in “importing” so much of the “heritage discussion” into the new formatl!
PS – did the Wyre have a re-sing of the MetroFM JAM 1994 custom at one stage?
November 4, 2011 at 5:16 pm #80771IainJohnstonMemberThanks! – but I keep thinking of a sonovox “The Wyre”!…
November 4, 2011 at 5:24 pm #80776jonnoMemberI remember hearing JAM jingles on Wire in Warrington a few years ago but my anorak wasn’t big enough for me to be able to identify the package /
November 4, 2011 at 5:41 pm #80769IainJohnstonMemberwIre – wYre…ah….right….didn’t know they were different – can they be heard (distantly) in each other’s TSAs perhaps?
(where’s the underlines and italics buttons…?)
November 4, 2011 at 5:42 pm #80768rakMemberAuthorThanks for the info everyone, and Neal for the montage. Nice ‘Shropshire’ sing on the Severn TOTH! I think the The Severn cuts work the best out of those three stations.
November 4, 2011 at 6:22 pm #80766wolfieThanks! – but I keep thinking of a sonovox “The Wyre”!…
That was on one of the cuts on the launch package of Wire FM here in Warrington.
As for hearing The Wyre and Wire FM in the same area – no chance. Although I know that in South Cheshire you can pick up both Wire FM and The Severn.
November 5, 2011 at 10:04 am #80756IainJohnstonMemberInteresting replies, thanks!
As for reception outwith TSA or major overlaps – had wondered, as in Scotland e.g. some Aberdeen area stations “intrude” right down to Dundee and vice versa, Edinburgh can be heard well north of Dundee, or if I drive 1/2-mile I can hear what used to be (JAM-jingled) Q96 from Paisley to the west of Glasgow. They all now tend to be the owned by the same groups and no longer care if they are heard on a “competing” station’s “patch” or in crossover areas.
At one time Q96 had some same JAM cuts as Clyde One, even though Q’s TSA was entirely within that of Clyde’s.
November 19, 2011 at 11:37 pm #79446AndyWMemberMNA are Midlands News Association. A newspaper group that prints the Express & Star and Shropshire Star. Their first dabble into radio was a shareholding in Wolverhampton station The Wolf who opened in 1997 with a custom Alfasound package. Telford FM was their first group station in the late 90’s followed in the early 2000’s by The Wyre in Kidderminster (standing for Wyre Forrest!) and The Severn in Shrewsbury. Telford got swallowed into Severn a couple of years ago to form a North Shropshire service almost comparable to Beacon Shropshire as was. It’s all programmed by Pete Wagstaff of Beacon Radio fame hence the JAM connection as he bought Alfasound / Jam exclusively when he programmed there. Telford FM opened with resings of Hot KIIS and Fresh KIIS. Not sure about Wyre but Severn opened with resings of jingles originally made for Century 105/106 by Jam in 1998. As with the Beacon years several ‘cut and shut’ versions were made…
As for jingles for stations in the same TSA this almost ties the two together as one was programmed by said Pete Wagstaff. Both jingles aired at the same time and, because of the BBC’s 828AM frequency for the Black Country they even radiated from the same mast!
http://soundcloud.com/andywcr/too-kool-jamDecember 1, 2011 at 10:10 am #81010gameswizardMemberI’d just like to add that my local station Dune FM (Southport) are using JAM jingles – in fact, they are back to using the same jingles that were used when the station launched in October 1997.
December 1, 2011 at 12:52 pm #81011roymartinEnjoy them while they last – the station will be closing at the end of December
December 1, 2011 at 1:11 pm #81012simon_t123Memberjust read that Roy, no takeover there then ? talk of redundancies, shame especially at this time of year !!! maybe a buyer will appear in the nick of time … if I won the lotto
December 3, 2011 at 6:02 pm #81038IainJohnstonMemberHad thought there was some talk of “converting ” Dune to “Community” status rather than fully-commercial, but maybe they’ve reached a point of no return?
Shame; I suspect there will be many more of the now-mostly-grouped “sallies” soon “going-dark” as they say in the States. If they’re re-using their JAM material in the remaining days, I do trust they have their royalty cheque signed & ready for JMW (although it’ll probably bounce…)
A small reprise of Dune cuts when they were shiny & new…

http://snd.sc/rypTpkTheir parent company will carry on though so I doubt the cheque will bounce. However, I fear that the parent company could be where the problem lies rather than with the radio stations themselves. People aren’t buying newspapers like they used to.
