“…………..Calling International Rescue….Calling………….”
Gents…
Anyone in the Edinburgh / Fife / East&Central Scotland area got a working reel-to-reel deck or recorder that I could buy/beg/borrow/rent or whatever for a jingle audio restoration project that is now threatened
by my own 30-year-old machines being beyond salvage?Doesn’nt have to look pretty – just with still functional motor drives and audio output at high or low line levels to allow a load of very tatty tapes
going back to circa 1969 through to the mid-80s to be physically repaired
and un-gunged / re-spliced prior to saving to digital media by myself and
a well-known fellow member of this forum!Spec is 7.5 ips (and 3&3/4 ips if possible) 1/2&1/2 track (or 1/4&1/4),
5″ up to 7″ conventional spindle reels, mono or stereo doesn’t matter
as long as tapes can be played to allow them to be put through an initial
physical restoration stage. If anyone can help, please e-mail me at wixy1360 (NoSpam) aol.com
(…you know the email address drill). If these tapes get salvaged, anything that’s never been released by me
before would be offered first via Jinglemad – would that be OK David H ?!PS – does anyone know anywhere, no matter how obscure, that still
sells old fashioned leader tape and splicing tape for 1/4″ reel-to-reel
tapes ?!Any help appreciated!

http://www.easternelectronics.co.uk
http://www.stirlingbroadcast.co.uk (still carrying a Merry Christmas banner!)
http://www.normanb.net (may be able to give a few clues – lives in Aberdeenshire and still has a lot of tapes in the cupboard).

He can certainly provide invaluable tips & tricks to help you on your way – if you need it).(Good luck, and since Lady Penelope is vacationing at present I’ve told Parker you can have the car). -Sean

I have a ready supply here in the US and can forward it your way. We use it quite a bit (to say the least).
