Getting into the NY times is no mean feat for anyone. Today’s issue features the story of Jon Wolfert, who’ll be behind the mic at WABC on Monday May 31st – available online on the ocassion of the annual WABC Rewound.
There’s also a link to a montage of WABC and other New York radio jingles, vintage to current. It concludes with a jingle produced for jmw, Jon M. Wolfert, which doesn’t get heard often!Registration (free) required to read the article and access the montage.

May 24, 2004 at 7:01 am #23922AdminWABC rewound is a great event every year! They ditch the news/talk format and play non stop restored airchecks, jingles all day and talk with some of the former WABC jocks.
I listened to the entire day of the first one back in 1999 (on dial up!) which resulted in a big phone bill, but it was worth it.
You can listen to WABC Rewound 2004 at http://www.wabcradio.com/ like Sean said on May 31st.

May 24, 2004 at 3:34 pm #23923bulger23That was a nice article. I think it’s a fitting tribute for Jon to be able to live his dream. All of us have that one station at the top of our list we’d always wanted to do a broadcast. And who better to chronicle such a storied history in radio.
Good job man!

May 30, 2004 at 10:10 am #23950JingleMadMemberAuthorJust a reminder that this will take place on WABC Memorial Day, starting 6am in NY. You will be able to listen on-line at http://www.wabcradio.com
Jon Wolfert, Dan Ingram, Peter Kanze, Allan Sniffen, Phil Boyce and Johnny Donovan talking jingles and radio trivia from 6pm (NY).RECORDING THE STREAM
Can anyone suggest a solution that records the stream directly to an mp3 format on a PC.
Could be done in Cool Edit, but the temp file size is humungus during recording – and we’re looking at around 13 hours!!
Thanks for any input.

Nope. I’d recommend you take the output of your sound card and input it into the audio channel of a VCR.

May 30, 2004 at 12:16 pm #23952JingleMadMemberAuthorGood idea TC to use a VCR, however, I have my Long Play/Record Minidisk machine hooked up and ready to record. You can get nearly 5 hours on each indiviual minidisk and I`ve got a couple of 6 packs cooling in the fridge !

Ahh Tracy, I knew I should have kept the VCR!
Actually, I read there was a small freeware program that will record net radio . . . just can’t recall which site I saw it on.
If I find it, I’ll pass it on.

May 30, 2004 at 8:22 pm #23954PPMI can highly recommend Total Recorder for recording those net streams. The standard version costs just $11.95 from http://www.highcriteria.com/
I will be using this tomorrow to record Rewound.
