Here`s a montage of Alfasound jingles which UK collectors all love and know (don`t you !) – I welcome comments please from anyone but especially from across the pond, from our American cousins, who probably haven`t heard a lot of these cuts before, what do you think ?
Cheers !

Those were really good!
Except for a handful of cuts, I hadn't heard any of those before.I think I understand why UK collectors are so fond.
Thanks for the enlightenment.

nice stuff Mr B.Thanks Mike…the 210 jingle and the Metro “North-East the best place in Britain” are my favourites !
BTW any one know who the lead-singer is on the 210 cut ? I think he sounds like Gilbert O`Sullivan.

It could be David Parton – the guy who did the British version of “Isn't She Lovely”. Mind you, around that time,Alfasound used a number of vocalists including Steve Butler,Clifford T Ward (who features quite prominently on one of the early Signal packages),and Terry Davis (who ended up on Essex Radio).
It might be worthwhile dropping Steve England a line – he'd tell you straight away who it was ….

Thanks kcmike, good to know you enjoyed the montage, there`s a hell of a lot of Alfasound material to choose from and those featured cuts are some of my personal favourites.

Big respect to kcmike for being open minded about jingles which are not made in the US. Me personaly would love to hear jingles from anywhere from around the world. How they were written, sung, etc, interests me.Has anyone got any jingles from other countries apart from the US,UK and Europe????
August 31, 2006 at 3:50 pm #22218BigdaveGot some Australian jingles somewhere…

Also got a few Australian jingles, circa late 1980s – might not be everyone's cup of tea
though, as the Aussies have (had) very odd ideas, and “keep 'em short” usually meant
slicing-up long cuts into bits.If anyone wants to hear a few – depends on cringeworthyness! – I'll post a few?
Vote now???

Thanks for that, lads! I really appreciate that. On the subject of Australian jingles, i remeber David Arnold telling me that they were'nt very good. That was back in the late 80s…Didn't GWR use Australian jingles in the 90s once?

Thanks inferno, pleased you enjoyed the Alfasound mix. You mentioned GWR – not sure if you`re aware or not but you can download some Australian jingles for GWR, from the Jingle House website, it`s their ATOMIC package.

AFTER PALM 105 I`M READY FOR ANYTHING [WINK]I would'nt bet on it !!!! – I feel a montage coming on, so I'll look out the
tapes (er, yes – brown ribbony stuff with small magnetic domains of
ferrous oxide………..)September 2, 2006 at 9:09 pm #22270IainJohnstonMemberAs promised, here's some bits from Australian & New Zealand stations – from the
mid-80s to 90s – and not a “Dallas 7-voice group” or a “Seattle Screech” to be heard. As far as I know, all the material on this montage was produced by Australian
jingle companies or local Oz/NZ studios.http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/423254/wixy1360/Wixy1360-Oz-and-NZ.MP3
But remember, you have been warned !!!

Always Great to hear the Alfasound Jingles again ,
I remember the good old days long before the CD Demo when the latest CASSETTE arrived with so many great
packages I grew up with Trent / Chiltern / 210 / Centre Radio must rate as my fav 4This year at the Northwest Radio Night it was great to finally meat Steve England having talked to him on the phone several times over the years
One Day I will finally get round to transfering all my Hospital Radio and other Personal Cuts to CD as most of the Jingles are still on reel to reel and I no longer have a Tape Player !

Thanks Martin…BTW don`t mind transferring your reel-tapes for you to CD – the cost of this service would be nowt !
I have transferred reel tapes succesfully for several other Jingle Madders, the only snag is, the reel-to-reel machine I have only plays back at 7 1/2 IPS stereo.

Just as well I didn't put on any of the really 'naff ones !
And finally got to hear Mr Barras' Alfasound Montage yesterday full blast on speakers
instead of tinny headphones – makes you realise that Alfa really did do a lot of good
original custom work in their heydey – the right sounds for that era of ILR – sad that
we won't see that kind of radio again in the UK now (insert your own “Sad/crying”
emoticon 'cos I can't find any here any more!!!)September 4, 2006 at 5:03 pm #22327Barraswixy1360 wrote:

Do you think the “Classic hits live on 2 Double C” cut at the end of the montage, sounds similar to the Alfasound singers ?

David B”Er,……No ! thank goodness,
and to prove it here's another version of the 2CC (Canberra) cut, for 5KA (Adelaide)
(pleeze xcoose dire audio quality!)http://www.filelodge.com/files/room17/423254/wixy1360/Wixy1360-5KA-2CC.MP3
I know some people today think the 1980's Alfasound “sound”
was a bit cheesy, but it gave British radio as it was then very
good imaging that suited a lot of the stations style – to drive
from Scotland down the M6 then M5 to the West Country in
those days was an (Alfasound) treat ! (especially because no
stations up here seemed to use Alfa…).Maybe its time for me to dig out the aircheck cassettes and
do an 80's off-air montage – ILR nostalgia trip anyone ??? -
