I’d thought everyone here would get a kick out of this. Here are three different CHRs from different parts of the country that call themselves “Kiss”.

First up is 106.1 Kiss FM KHKS Dallas/Ft. Worth (from 1994):

      http://d48.yousendit.com/C/0VPND547YJTOG38F8F3YHTVN58/106.1%20Kiss-FM%20KHKS%20off-air.wma

At the time, they were using TM Century’s “Southern California’s KIIS”, but sharp ears will pick up on the weather bed that wasn’t part of that package. Care to guess what TM Century package it came from? (Answer will be provided if no one gets it right.)

Then, we head to Kansas City and Kiss 107.3 KISF (from late 1993):

      http://d48.yousendit.com/C/0AJJZGZNTIHLM3BZ4E3F41TK2X/Kiss%20107.3%20KISF%20off-air.wma

Kiss 107.3 was around only for a short time. They’ve signed on in early 1993 to fill the hole that longtime CHR Q-104 (KBEQ) left when they went Country. The station enjoyed some moderate success, but was handicapped with a signal that only cover 2/3 of the KC metro despite having a 100kw signal (the tower was and I believe is still located about 40 miles to the east of KC). When Mix 93.3 flipped to CHR in 1994, Kiss decided to go Alternative, ending their short stint as a CHR.

Finally, we head to Boston for a listen to one of the first (if not the first) station in America that called themselves Kiss….Kiss 108 WXKS/Boston (also from 1994):

Kiss by this time was more Mainstream, but still sounded great, IMHO.

      Enjoy,
      Robyn

Wow…that weather bed is from the “Oldies 94.9” (later “Seventies Session”) package!

(Ding-Ding) Correct! Yes, that was from the “Oldies 94.9” (KODZ-Dallas/Ft. Worth) package from 1991. I was quite surprised when I’ve first heard that. A while back, someone posted some jingles on this forum of 106.1 Kiss-FM after the format change. They apparently DID used the weather bed off of “Southern California’s KIIS” for a short time before taking it off the air and replacing it with the one from the “Oldies 94.9” package.

Oldies 94.9 was around for only a short time, they had flipped to Gold-based Country as “Sunny 95” by the time that the 106.1 Kiss-FM materlal was recorded.

Very nice contribution Robyn. I remember hearing the KHKS jingles presented while I was on vacation there in 1992. And thanks for the KISS 108 and KISF material.

Checkout Neal`s superb aircheck site http://www.mp3airchecks.com and you`ll find 3 airchecks of KTKS. I transfererd the Walton & Johnson airchecks from reel-to-reel to MP3 for Rich and Neal. The reel tape from Rich is over 20 years old, I had to keep spraying Lynx body deoderant (alcohol base !) on the reel heads to clear all the c.r.a.p. and oxide.

Here`s an aircheck of John Roberts on KTKS, trimmed down to hear the JAM jingles, of course.

The more seasoned collectors will know that the audio of John Roberts is taken from a series of tapes called Alfasound Airchecks. Thank you Steve England !

Can someone please repost the Kiss 108 file? I somehow missed it when it was posted. Thats around the time when I listened to them a lot, it’d be great to hear!
