TM Productions did a “Warm & Wonderful” circa 1969.
The demo was WPEN (I think – Mr Barras might confirm?)
I’ve still got a 3 & 3/4 IPS tape I got from KPRC Houston in 1970 and
their resing of it was the first time I’d heard the TM “sound”
compared with that of PAMS – a much richer sophisticated one entirely.

The package is TM’s WARM & WONDERFUL August 1969 custom for WPEN Philadelphia. The all-male vocals included Singers Unlimited’s Don Shelton, Gene Puerling and Len Dressler in addtion to TM’s Brian Beck. Though delivered to the station in mono, I have a Stereo copy of the package. I’ll post a few example stereo cuts shortly.

Never heard “W&W” sound so good. Thanx for sharing.
That’s the kind of stuff that got me turned onto TM way back when, before I even knew who they were.
Any chance of posting that real long cut that starts with alot of orchestration, anad the singes start singing “Warm and wonderful, warm and wonderful…WPEN the new 95, radio Philadelphia”

Joe,

There are two cuts, off the top of my head, that fit that description. One is the rip-off of a song from the play PROMISES, PROMISES (Knowing When To Leave – by Jill O’Hara)… the other is another song rip off. Sorry… but I’m not sure which one you mean.

I must say I have never heard this package before but it is the Best

Martin,

These were the best voices in the business. Singers Unlimited was based out of Chicago… and they flew down for the session. I spoke to Brian Beck about this session several years ago. He was in awe of the group and was totally blown-away to be singing with them on this package.

There were several versions of these done, that I know of… but I really couldn’t say for sure if they brought the group in for them. I can tell you that the original FREE DESIGN package for WNBC was sung in Chicago by the full SINGERS UNLIMITED group featuring Bonnie Herman on lead. The syndicated versions were sung by the Dallas group… mainly with Judy Parma on lead.

Classic stuff from TM. The intro to that second cut (which is based on 5th Demension’s “Aquarius”) is identical to John Paul Young’s “Love is in the Air”.

Definitely dated, but how great it would be if the digital age had never arrived!

Unfortunately, I have no way of measuring how popular the package was as the TM references for this era are gone. However, in my days of trading, I only was able to find two syndicated versions of this package.

Let’s see, what stations do I know of that had this package sung for them:

WPEN (Philadelphia) (pilot station)
WDBO (Orlando)
KPRC (Houston)
WGAN (Portland, ME)

In the TM Song, during the montage of station logos, WISN (Milwaukee) is sung with the logo from this package, so perhaps they’re another…

Mmmmmm. I remember getting a copy of W&W around 1972 and being mightily impressed by them (especially after being dissappointed in equal measure by PAMS “Revolution”) especially the orchestration.

’tis a pity they do sound a little dated now. But they must rank amongst the “great” jingle packages.

Amazing package. That’s all I can say.

I heard this almost right after I started collecting jingles, and it’s always been one of my favorites.

It comes from that amazing period of early TM, about 1968-73, the same period which brought us Charisma, And the Beat Goes On, Plays the Hits, Sound ’70, the “Design” packages, Where Your Friends Are, Pacific & Southern, The Sound of Chicago, and scads of other wonderful jingles…

I have a lot of faith in STUDIO DRAGONFLY and I’m quite amazed that they can really emulate the “good” TM sound (pre Century21/ Thompson rip-off vocals).
It would be a hoot to see how they’d do W&W (should anyone want it).
