Is there any radio station using Studio Dragonfly as of now?
I know some:
KRRR – Cheyenne, WY (The 70’s and More)
WRCH – Hartford, CT (KVIL Renaissance)
KUMU – Honolulu, HI (KVIL Renaissance)
DYRK – Cebu City, Philippines (CBS K-Lite and K-Lite 2)
CKDO – Oshawa, ON (WTPI and KVIL packages)
Love Radio – Philippines (KVIL the 90s)
IFM – Philippines (Hartford’s Hot AC, Detroit’s DRQ, Big Phat Kiss)
CFRY – Portage la Prairie, MB (a KSCS package)July 23, 2021 at 2:03 pm #106237firetypecinderaceMemberAuthorCKNC – Simcoe, ON (Double Power 2)
July 23, 2021 at 7:19 pm #106238ApolloThe problem is that most, if not all of Studio Dragonfly’s packages were TM packages at one time, keeping in mind that I believe Studio Dragonfly was actually part of TM.
So even on my own list, I usually call everything TM, unless I know the jingle was produced during the Studio Dragonfly era.
You really need to know the date to know which it was.
I never thought that producing a package and later producing it under a subsidiary or whatever you want to call it was a good idea.
A few years ago, someone emailed me about a specific jingle. I gave them the correct answer only to find out that the exact same package was now called something else on another website. Confusing,
In my opinion, keeping it simple is always better.July 23, 2021 at 7:45 pm #106239ApolloAlso, there appears to be confusion over TM and Studio Dragonfly and Young Guns and Litehouse and Radioscape etc. Who is actually producing the packages? Which subsidiaries or companies still exist? If the same vocalists are singing them, why confuse everyone with different package names and producers?
I’m a fan of TM, but it’s confusing. What ever happened to the Studio Dragonfly packages, or TM packages that were later under the Studio Dragonfly name?July 24, 2021 at 3:24 am #106240WAVAMemberfiretypecinderace;d-11679 wrote:Is there any radio station using Studio Dragonfly as of now?

So yeah. Confusing.July 24, 2021 at 9:47 am #106241MarcMannetjeI can’t find the Studio Dragonfly website anymore. It has been disappeared for ages. Or is it because I try to find it from a European IP-adress?
Can you still order/buy/syndicate those older TM packages?

In my opinion, keeping it simple is always better. The whole concept of Studio Dragonfly has been well documented the previous CEO considered the way people had been ordered jingles in the past to be very outdated so if you was a large station that was fine but if you did not have a huge budget then Studio Dragonfly was the way to get the same Quality Jingles from TM Studios but at a Factory Outlet price
Let’s face it a a fixed price of $199.00 per cut this was an excellent deal , clients might have to wait for up to 6 weeks for delivery, most of the time it was a lot quicker but this was acceptable to most people
The idea was great I think the whole problem was when Westwood One took over the ownership of TM Studios, nothing got updated and just left it without adding any packages for years
They was quick to close down IJingles and studio Dragonfly did last a few years longer but ultimately closed due to poor management at the time
Now that TM Studios are run by People that care about Jingles it has been said that the classic TM cuts would be available again if enough interest

The way jingles are SUPPOSED to sound like.July 24, 2021 at 6:25 pm #106245ApolloFirst, to the original poster, I didn’t intend to change your post, but It happens all the time on here. Hopefully, all of the input here explains more about Studio Dragonfly.
Thanks Martin for the information. I still don’t understand why it was necessary to give it a new name. In my opinion, a business should never rebrand their brand.
I still don’t get Kissville, Young Guns, Litehouse, etc. Were they part of TM? Where are they now?
Why are some of TM’s packages on another website (Radioscape)? Were they never TM packages to begin with? Were they originally created for someone else? Also, there have been a few instances of the older packages showing up in the US recently. The packages I’ve heard aren’t on the website, so I don’t know how they managed to do that.
With that being said, you can’t order a package if you don’t know it exists. If I were TM, I would put every one of my packages on the website.July 24, 2021 at 7:42 pm #106246MarcMannetjeBA;c-75645 wrote:With that being said, you can’t order a package if you don’t know it exists. But in my experience sometimes copyrights are very complicated, maybe the Litehouse stuff was never sold in the package deal of the TM ownership, for example.
Jingle companies sometimes don’t feel their old packages still reflect their latest ‘culture or style’ – and therefore they don’t demo them online, but if a client really specifically asks for let’s say a classic full orchestrated 7 voice vocal package sales will send a ‘hidden’ demo right away.
But again, I agree, the more you demo and show, the more prospects get the idea of finding the right package at your production company.

July 25, 2021 at 5:28 am #106252ApolloTo the best of my knowledge,
New Mexico’s KANW was called
ABC AC 2007. (Only part of KANW is the ABC package. I don’t know what the other jingles are.)
Timeless Favorites was called
ABC Timeless Favorites Basics.
Both of the above were for stations that subscribed to a satellite service and were on TM’s webpage. I don’t know if TM owned the packages or just sang them.
I also believe Newstalk WRVA TM was once on the Radioscape site.July 25, 2021 at 10:42 am #106255martinlesterMemberI believe the TM cuts that are now on RadioScape were from the time when it was JonesTM ,All the cuts were originally written by Johnny Hopper and originally sold to JonesTM , later on when RadioScape started they did buy some of the original Tracks back from JonesTM who considered they no longer wanted them
To BA it is normal is most business to have some sort of Factory Outlet for older stock think of Tommy Hilfiger , Bose , Gap all have factory outlets stores
Studio Dragonfly was innovative at the time as the CEO of TM noticed the gap in the market and took advantage of it , at lot of stations/individual ordered packages that would never have bought direct at the full price , as they simply could not afford or had the budget for a full package at the normal price ( think of stations in small markets, Internet stations , student and hospital radio stations)
July 25, 2021 at 5:43 pm #106258ApolloThanks for all of the information Martin.
I just don’t understand why anyone would rebrand their own product. If you think your jingles are the best, why would you want to rebrand part of your business and call it something else? At least until this thread, there was still confusion about Studio Dragonfly, and this is years later with people who actually try to follow and understand the jingle companies.July 26, 2021 at 3:07 pm #106268MarcMannetjeBA;c-75659 wrote:At least until this thread, there was still confusion about Studio Dragonfly, and this is years later with people who actually try to follow and understand the jingle companies. And more importantly – a few of us are still clients of production companies…

With great real vocalsJuly 26, 2021 at 4:38 pm #106270johnquincyMemberOne of the ideas behind Studio Dragonfly was that a different group of singers would be used. They were paid by the cut, not the hour as is normal — and they recorded during the evening when the studio wasn’t normally in use.
The typical “A” singers weren’t initially used. A “B” group with some less experienced vocalists was assembled. But over time some of the “A” singers wanted to make some extra bucks so they asked to be part of the Studio Dragonfly sessions.
All of this, along with Studio Dragonfly using older TM packages, made it possible for them to offer jingles at substantial savings.
I bought a Studio Dragonfly package (“Martini Lounge”) for WTMZ, an adult standards station I was programming in the early 2000s, and it turned out pretty good.
