Reelworld has released a new package for Denver’s heritage country station 98.5 KYGO. I haven’t gotten to listen to the cuts since I’m at work, but the quote from the PD is curious:
“It’s been nearly a decade since KYGO had jingles.”
This has always puzzled me (except for the once upon a time Essex FM saga)…
If a station “commissions” a CUSTOM package, yet does not actually air it, surely they must still have to pay for the creative work carried out?
Even if obviously the production company will not get airplay royalties from the commissioning-station, but will make its real earnings
from the syndication re-sings of the package?
Iain, back in my radio consulting days it did happen that we commissioned a studio to produce a package and did not air it at the end. Mostly because of management or format changes. We once turned down a package because it was really badly produced, but still had to pay basic costs of the studio except for the copyrights. I think that’s fair enough. We should value creative talent as much as possible, I think.
We all know studios tend to produce demo packages too, using big names without commission (KIIS/Z100) to get them propelled into the market with famous audio logos. I am curious what the strategy of the TM KYGO packages was…
They changed the audiologo again. I always liked the original JAM melody, which was adapted by one of the biggest German stations in the 90s (Antenne Bayern) which started of with a KYGO-package. Later on Groove Addicts did some custom packages for Antenne Bayern (Bavaria) still using the original JAM KYGO-melody. Here’s a link to one of those Groove Addicts packages using that audio logo:
