Most folk on here will have read the sad News about John Myers by now.

He launched CFM in Carlisle, and a few years ago posted a few CFM JAM cuts from WPLJ and Z100 on Soundcloud, with a not “Happy days”

I hadn’t seen this news. We’re losing too many good people. He was a definite radio good guy.

A sad but strange coincidence of the the two “J. Myers” within a very short space of time.

The British one had such a huge constructive influence on UK radio.

Huge tribute on Jeremy Vine programme at lunchtime today on BBC Radio Two.

A lot of “weel kent names” in UK BBC and commercial radio, as well as even past
            listeners, with anecdotes and tributes.

Probably most of the audience would have wondered what/who it was all about,
but John Myers clearly held in great respect by former BBC colleagues to have
devoted such a sizeable chunk of a mainstream programme to him.

I had the opportunity of meeting John a couple of times, via my connections with Real Radio and the Radio Academy.

Not only did he love the medium of radio, he also thought “Breakthru” by JAM was the best jingle package ever – having bought it for both Rock FM and CFM.

                  Sad new indeed.

I think we have John to thank for the Century 1998 JAM custom package, later renamed for the US market as ‘The Best Mix in Denver’.

This prompted me to watch the BBC Documentary about Century, ‘Trouble at the Top’ on YouTube last night, which if you don’t know, shows John doing what he did with great humour and determination.

Thanks for the tip on the documentary Graham, I checked it out myself : https://youtu.be/nMFkqNB0_NQ
Very interesting gentleman this Mr. Myers was.

By the way, watching that documentary lead me to this one: Blood On The Carpet – Walking With Disc Jockeys (2000)

You folks across the pond really know how to produce some hard hitting documentaries that make for compelling viewing :)

Sad news – I never met John but exchanged messages with him. I was a big fan of the Century stations – my local was East Midlands. Always great JAM jingles!
