      Sad news this morning that Dianne Oxberry has died after a short illness. Dianne was a much-loved broadcaster in the NW of England but is probably more famous to us for working on the Radio 1 breakfast show with Simon Mayo. She featured on that classic jingle- Closer to the Music #23

        Sad news, I was shocked when I heard yesterday morning. The breakfast show in which she was a huge part was brilliant.

        I remember listening to Diane’s weather to see if I’d need my coat to walk the mile to school in…. and of course that jingle!

          Yes this is sad…. and Tony’s memory from when he was a “lad” shows how much GOOD radio can touch people ..

          ….we recall it many years later.

          I never heard the jingle first time round as in ’92 pre-internet (and all these conferences) we pretty much just focused on ‘our’ area.

          But over 20 years later I DID hear it !
