I came across this collection of beautiful jingles for KNX-FM on Soundcloud which runs to nearly half an hour.

To quote the info from the person who posted:
“A collection of jingles from
Mellow Rock KNX/FM radio
in L. A. from 1970’s and early
’80’s.”I’m guessing they were produced by HLC, but happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.
They really do have a distinctive sound and feel – I really like them.

For me it’s another package that is interesting to listen to now, out of context, but I’m not sure how useful or good these jingles would have sounded on air, unless the playlist was funereal !

These “songs” are far too long for Jingles and you get bored after the first 10-15 seconds…….

Didn’t see that with bleary eyes early this morning – thanks for pointing it out

haha! Never one to mince your words eh Graham?

It would be interesting to know how these were used on air, maybe there were shorter mixes as well. That said, I do like long image songs however impractical or infrequently they may have been used on air.
November 19, 2017 at 8:30 pm #102287IainJohnstonIf these were Los Angeles recorded, then it was a “union town”, which was why Heller Corporation material
in the 1970s was also generally recorded as each cut being as “long song”, then mixed/edited down into bits.
Something Dallas didn’t have to worry about coping with. Also worth remembering that in the earlier 1970s at least FM in the USA was still much more laid back, with
unusual formats or even “free play”, only slowly starting the big migration of mainstream stations in from AM.Doing a quick scan, there’s an Eye Productions today in LA, founded in 2014 doing tv and film programming.
May or may not be any connection.November 19, 2017 at 9:45 pm #102288jinglejoeMemberEYE of old was Ed Yellen Enterprises. They did jingles.
November 20, 2017 at 1:30 pm #102290LenGroatI like these – sensitive lyrics sung as if by an artist not a vocal group – they probably worked very well with the music policy.
I also liked the very quiet KNX-FM ‘Naturally’ cuts by PAMS, that we re-sung for Radio 1. I used one of those for a James Whale jingle at Metro in 1974.

EYE’s masters ended up at TM… and then mostly in the dumpster.
January 14, 2018 at 4:53 am #87016TServo2049Apologies for the bump, but those long jingles were actually done by Tuesday Productions in San Diego. They weren’t union, but they did specialize in long cuts rather than short jingles. Tuesday’s stuff was great, and these are excellent. Very late-70s.
The one at 8:50 may be my favorite. Someone posted a long montage of Tuesday stuff here years ago, and that cut was in it.
