How good is it to hear all those great Jam and PAMS jingles again on our national network. From a personal point of view, radio came alive once more today and it was so good to hear all those voices from the past and those wonderful jingles once again. Thank you Jon for making it all possible. JM fans are in listening heaven right now.

        I agree scotron.

I woke up at 5.55 to hear the countdown, just like I did in 1984 to hear the jingle montage before the new day began. 33 years later and I still got goosebumps when the JAM jingles burst through- just as dynamic and exciting. I’ve never stopped loving them but today was very special, I feel 10 again. Thank you Jon.

          Agree with all of that.

Agreed the 50 year countdown hour – absolute brilliance – with John Wells intermittently interrupting the clips and jingles “?? minutes until Rad 1 Vintage”

Also lets give credit to Radio 1 on their greatest hits shows they have mixed the modern & vintage jingles together to produce effect idents

Really been enjoying Radio 1 Vintage this weekend.

It’s been a wonderful trip down memory lane hearing those presenters I listened to over the years (my highlight so far being Annie Nightingale)
but also a great journey of discovery listening to and enjoying many others for the first time. And we still have one more day to go… Do I have to go to work tomorrow? ????

A celebration on this scale would never have been possible in years gone by, but thanks to the flexibility of DAB to provision a pop up national network and high speed internet connections the BBC have given us all a real treat. Hats off to everyone at the Beeb that have been involved.

Oh and Smiley Miley is even flogging R1V t-shirts just like in the old Road Show days :-)

I think it deserved better coverage – taking over the Radio `1 FM frequencies for the weekend rather than on DAB- the horrific old technology DAB is still desperately trying to get more people switched over

That would of course please us older fans who grew up with Radio 1, but what would it be relevant or of interest to Radio 1’s current audience?

Agreed, the DAB technology is woeful by today’s standards, and there has been a race to the bottom in terms of audio quality and bandwidth in order to maximise the number of stations on a MUX. A topic for discussion elsewhere (if it hasn’t been done to death already).

I think that the BBC Local Radio AM frequencies would have been a good place to have had R1 Vintage (as well as DAB/online) – some are due to be switched off soon, have a tiny audience as most folk are now on FM/DAB/online – AM would have had the authentic sound we all grew up with, too. It might have been tricky to list all the frequencies, but not beyond the wit of folks to find those AM channels.

Just knocked up a script to simultaneously download all the R1V programmes from iPlayer! That’s just over 8GB of audio to listen to again and again :)
