CBS fired longtime WOGL program director Anne Gress a few days ago, and now have promoted WTDY/Today’s 96.1 PD Bobby Smith to oversee both stations. Smith, to my knowledge, has not programmed a Classic Hits or Oldies station before, but instead has history with CHR and AC stations, which seems to be the way CBS has been going with their PD selections. I’m not sure if any of them have used jingles (WTDY didn’t, last I listened). But considering the trends at CBS, I wouldn’t bet on JAM jingles remaining on the station, or the station retaining its heavier R&B/rhythmic component.

But really, take a station to top of the latest ratings for its audience, then be “let go” one week later?

Well, it happened. WOGL has gone all-Christmas, and is now using the Reelworld K-Hits package. Bah humbug.

Well, I can’t say I was surprised with the jingle outcome, but could WOGL go in a entirely new direction after the holidays (since the CBS-Entercom merger is complete)? Only time will tell…

They’re certainly not going to change formats altogether, considering their ratings success. The music has been gradually moving forward, but I wouldn’t expect any sudden drastic changes to the playlist. I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed their imaging voice in the near future, though. They’ve also unfortunately let go of some of their on-air talent in the past few months, which is a trend I don’t want to see continue, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

                      merger? what merger???
Viacom/cbs doesn’t want any radio stations (just like ge/nbc and Disney/abc)

entercom bought cbs radio. they’ll either do well with it, or or fail, but that’s all to be seen the future will be fun and interesting.

                      as for jingles?

isn’t jam making enough doing resings for everybody? if there was something, ANYTHING, interesting out of that shop, im sure p.d.’s would be knocking on their door willing to give them lots of money.

“the future will be fun and interesting”–not for those poor souls who got “downsized” (to keep it “P-C”)…
