Tony Blackburn will be back on BBC but as reported today

BBC bosses are facing a furious backlash over their treatment of Tony Blackburn .

The popular DJ, 73, has been reinstated to Radio 2 and local stations but the corporation refused to apologise for firing him in February.

A lot of people signed the online petitions and other efforts to have him reinstated.

By the way, close examination of the newspaper text will reveal that a certain chunk of several words of the BBC’s broadcast/online text were noticably chopped out during the day, the removal of which then inferred that Blackburn was the ONLY person “involved” in the alleged “incident” yet the original text suggested he was one of a number of people supposedly involved. Strange, that. Hmmmm.

Oddly enough, a number of entirely separate but “hot” topics on BBC News pages and transmissions were “modified” or even completely deleted in various ways during the day.

Simply updating “rolling news”, or some kind of “influence” being applied?

Apart from that, it would be nice if Tony can please order up a JAM or PAMS “DJ cut” for the Friday evening slot! :^)

He is apparently filling Desmond Carrington’s shoes on a Friday evening but the word is he won’t be in that slot for long….. Pick of The Pops is his natural home…..

I think Len posted on Face Book it is a Disgrace that he will only be on for 1 Hour on Radio 2

At least his Soul show will be back on BBC Radio London

The big elephant in the room is why should the BBC apologise?

Maybe they should apologise for the side-effects of the investigation, but not for what caused it.

Blackburn’s lucky to have a show as a whole, and to be honest, Paul Gambacinni’s doing pretty
good on Pick Of The Pops.

If you take a look at Twitter , digital spy , and Facebook

Most listeners don’t agree while Gambachinni is very knowledgable a Countdown type show needs jingles ,lots of energy which is why Tony Blackburn is the ideal DJ for this show

You don’t prolong an argument like this – tony loves being on the air and he’ll be happiest at being back on his two BBC Local shows and on Radio 2.
The radio 2 slot is a bit trickier – Pick of the Pops has pace – gambol is your quiet laconic mid Atlantic flat presentation style – but you can’t take a show off him you’ve just given him.
This is the door opening at Radio 2 – It is not a station that has revolution it has evolution – A slot and format for Tony will come up.

I have to agree with Martin Lester: “Most listeners don’t agree while Gambachinni is very knowledgable a Countdown type show needs jingles ,lots of energy which is why Tony Blackburn is the ideal DJ for this show”

PG is just not suited to this show – it SOUNDS voice-tracked even though it’s not – he lacks the fun and spontaneity of TB. PG’s voice is best used in a documentary style format – even great jingles wold not ‘save’ him.

The man who put PG on POTP is Bob Shennan who had just been made ‘head’ of BBC Radio – so ‘our’ kind of radio is fast disappearing. And note that the pompous (huge) staff in the BBC PR Office issued the details about TB returning in a memo headed ‘to English Regions’ and ended it “There will be no further comment” ! A PUBLICLY funded organisation cannot tell US what to do or how to think, and should not forget about Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland !!

I agree Tony has clearly taken the option of getting his show back – rather than pursued justifiable legal action – he’s in his 70s and put his love of radio FIRST! But overall this is just another example of the ‘suit’ mentality of the BBC.

I suspect TB will also take over ‘Sounds of the 60s’ soon – and if we are lucky the BBC ‘suit’ in charge of jingles will be on the phone to JAM / PAMS….
