I wanted a ‘rocky guitar’ cut for Solid Gold GEM to go with the 80s songs we play and going through the many JAM demos realised the ‘New York Fan’ package has some great ones.
I wonder if any other stations have ordered these with ‘music radio’ lyrics?
I settled for this cut and am delighted with how it works as a ‘pop’ jingle!

Then our Graham Collins did a nifty mix and created a shorter tighter fast-to-slow cut, it’s a great music lead in jingle!
September 10, 2016 at 9:22 pm #100622PKMemberRadio Maldwyn 756 in Mid Wales had Cut 11 which I think Metro FM had resung and it’s also the Jinglemad Radio “66 Jingles in a row” cut!
Cut 11 works really well on air as a music radio jingle, out of commercials, segues etc. It’s a great cut.

September 11, 2016 at 11:15 am #100624LenGroatThanks PK and MHodgey !
I had heard (but forgotten) the Radio 5 demos – they should have gone with them – superb!
I’ve never heard the Radio Maldwyn cut but of course I know the JingleMad version…
I’ve also now realised that cut 11 is the one Steve England chose (and sang in the UK) to surprise JMW with when he appeared on GEM-AM to do the one hour ‘jingle special’ in ’92 or ’93 (?) At the time I don’t think I’d even heard ‘New York Fan’ so never connected the two ~ it’s a great cut.
In fact, in terms of instrumentation, vocals and sheer energy & power I don’t think these jingles have aged at all, or could be improved upon now – amazing given they are 24 years old !!
For stations that play music with real instruments, jingles with this kind of instrumentation, style, surely work best ?l

September 12, 2016 at 5:20 am #100631tyty21as for stations across the pond, only one i can think of, and that’s Beckley, West Virginia’s WCIR, 103 CIR. there are cuts floating around

“Here he is direct from JAM – in Dallas! – the President of JAM… John Wolfeeeeeeeert!
Funny how you should mention that special programme Len… I was only thinking I needed to log on here and ask you a question about it. It was aired on a Sunday evening wasn’t it? I’ve always assumed it was done live but having worked in the industry for many years, I’ve now come to the conclusion that it was pre-recorded, including the next hour’s music programming that Jon presented. I remember wondering how Jon had effortlessly hit IRN perfectly and had no hiccups with the ads etc.
If you now tell me that it WAS live, I’ll be astounded and very impressed!
September 12, 2016 at 9:44 pm #100636BigdaveThe Pulse did use cuts from New York Fan (albeit for Sport!) and Metro did too…. here’s the proof…

September 12, 2016 at 11:14 pm #100638LenGroatHello Spoons:
“If you now tell me that it WAS live, I’ll be astounded and very impressed! “
It wasn’t just live – there was NO rehearsal !
Jon’s arrival with Steve was delayed – so drinks and food at my home as the ‘green room’ were dropped – we had to go straight to the GEM studio (there are pics, I employed a pro photographer!).
We did the hour on jingles, all the drop-ins were on cart – then Jon sat down at 9pm, and pressed the button on THE jingle at 9.03 !!
Jon is a consummate DJ
_____BigDave and MB – thanks for the further examples!

It was absolutely live. Go ahead, be impressed.
Oh, and the New York Fan jingle that Steve England and Len had prepared for the occasion was indeed a complete surprise to me!
September 13, 2016 at 9:36 pm #100642GrahamCollinsI do like studio photos and trying to identify the gear. The obligatory Beyer DT100 cans and AKG D202E1 mic, but I don’t recognize those cart players, at first I thought ITC99s….
September 14, 2016 at 9:22 am #100645IainJohnston“I do like studio photos and trying to identify the gear”
Well, at least it was a REAL radio studio!
Carts, (corner of a) turntable, punch-button/selection panels, pre-fades, EQ pots, VU meters (5 for music, 6 for mic),
phone-line doo-dah box, a proper clock, et al…
Not a flat screen, keyboard, mouse, “F1 for next”, or even a PC case in sight :^)(And no silly arty-farty giant LED screens around the walls to pretend its a different radio station for each pre-recorded
“insert” to be added by the computer into different transmitters’ “streams” 5 minutes later…)Mind you – I don’t see any cardboard egg-boxes on the walls as acoustic damping?
(…certain people of a certain age, and once of certain places will know about that one… ;^) )September 14, 2016 at 1:41 pm #100646SpoonsI’ve now come to the conclusion that it was pre-recorded

Wow! In which case I am very impressed. Takes some doing to just sit down in an unknown studio and nail it like that!
Brilliant picture too Jon! Thanks for sharing.
