“BE CREATIVE, PEOPLE. It’s YOUR jingle! Make it UNIQUE”

I’ve ALWAYS asked Jon to try and do my Personal Cuts in ways a bit different from the demos, and he’s always done me proud.

I’m sure my “requests” must surely scunner him though, as in my financial circumstances I can only afford 1 cut per rare order, and I know that isn’t so easy for them to handle. But I highly commend his legendary “attention to detail” on even my daft stuff! :^)

Yes! I have noticed your cuts always DO have a different twist. Good stuff :-)

Jeffro – your jingles more than any others have made me think I should branch out lyrically. I can’t compete with ‘Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn’ but I have just placed an order for two JAM personal cuts that I think will entertain.

My back-catalogue of personal cuts, with some quirky lyrics, is here:

While wacky lyrics are fun, sometimes it’s just the placement of your lyrics that makes a jingle unique!

Take, for instance, After Burner Cut #11. On the WNCI demo, it’s a bed that builds to the calls. When I had it cut for Jeffro Radio, I had lyrics sung over the ramp and even had JAM add some flange effects:

I also did something similar with Airpower Plus #19 from TM:

Hopefully, Jon and Greg have destroyed the vocal tracks *I* recorded and sent to them as examples of how I wanted these cuts sung. NOBODY needs to hear those!

Geoff – your stuff always puts a smile on my face! Thanks for sharing :-)

Jeffro – thanks for your kind comment!

Geoff – may your new cuts lyrically continue to bring “cheesey”ness to even greater hights!

Jeffro – Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton also had Skywave #13 as a fully sung jingle too for their Beacon Breakfast Crew. Luv your new version Jeffrey!

Errrrm, I’m afraid Sean Martin & Greg also have a few very questionable demo’s of me singing (very badly and painfully) demonstrations of how I’d wanted jingle jingles sung and I also hope they’d never post them publicly too. But it is Halloween next weekend! Jon, Sean and Greg wouldn’t dare – would they? :-/

“very questionable demo’s of me singing”

I’ve various items of such “exploitable” audio of various now “well-known JMers” going back as much as 40+ years, and no doubt they could reciprocate if I was ever to “go public” with theirs!

Some things are best kept “in the attic” :^)

…and now back to the original topic… :^)

This is a very StImuLATinG topic -thanks Jefffro and everyone else! Looking for new ways with classic jingles is something I love to do. I spend hours trying out different rhymes, words, shouts, sono… even changing a melody or two if I get adventurous. Graham Collins who is now part of the Solid Gold Gem team often makes observations – it’s useful to bounce ideas around.

But then, in my briefs I have to check if they pass the ‘Jon test’: maybe see if an alternate sono version might work on a cut, and Jon tends to steer me to a ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ (thank goodness!) What’s amazing is that I can cherry pick cuts that are 20 , 30 or more years old, and they arrive sounding like originals as Jon matches vocals, sono, often even the original soloists!

Here’s a cut where Jon was not sure sono instead of singing fitted in the middle, but I LOVE it and think the lyric and sono go together beautifully. If you are over 50 you’ll know why we called it ‘Sparky’ !

We’ve just had a new mini-package (of ALL JAM material) for our third anniversary week November 1st to 7th. I’ll gradually unveil those on here – including a new News jingle (partly customised as it did not have a vocal originally!) It’s our first in 3 years as it’s hard to replace the amazing WABC ‘Top News’ one we’ve had since day one.

Those wacky guys at Beacon also sung the cut all the way through for the Beacon Breakfast Crew as part of their last JAM package before GWR took full control and runined the station

                            p.s.

I forget to credit Jon with something I completely missed – I got the line ‘Everything Old Is New Again’ from a (superb) Peter Allen song. But when Jon sent the cut he pointed out that we could have had it as:

                            “EverythinGold Is New Again” !

So we’ve done a cut like that in our new package!

Len DEFINITELY gets what I’m saying. I’ve heard him replace sings with sono, sono with sings and even throw lyrics where they’ve never lived before! I still get excited when a new Solid Gold GEM AM cut shows up here. You da man, Len!

Here’s one of my earlier “alterations.” When we launched The 80s Channel in 1999, I replaced the jock shout with a frequency sing in Z Force #11. Though, we STILL used the mixout with our jock shouts. Two jingles for the price of one:

I had actually heard another version of that cut on Z100 with different effects and “Kid Kelly” sung instead of shouted. Maybe Jon can shed some light on that. Was it an early audition mix?

Jeffro – thanks for the…. err ….compliment! “You Da man” !

As you “still get excited when a new Solid Gold GEM AM cut shows up here” prepare for an exciting week – and you could always join us for a weekly show, called ‘The Jeffro on the Radio’ show – you have enough jingles!
