I am sad to report that Judy Parma, a veteran Dallas jingle singer, has passed away due to cancer. She was 74.
Judy began doing jingle sessions while still in high school, and sang for many producers during her career including a few companies she ran with her husband Tom. She became part of the JAM vocal group in 1975 and continued to sing for us until her retirement in 2008. From 1985 to 2008 she was on staff here, as a vocalist, vocal arranger and producer.
Thank you, Judy. The world has a little less music in it today.

December 23, 2014 at 10:53 pm #96663JAM / PAMSMemberAuthorI neglected to mention that Judy was part of the PAMS vocal group of the 1960s, including the all-girl “Gold Pussycats” ensemble who sang Series 30.

December 24, 2014 at 12:24 am #96665MarkSMemberSo sorry to read this news – the musical world has lost a great talent.
December 24, 2014 at 12:57 am #96667LenGroatJudy was a lovely lady. It was a pleasure to meet her at JAM.
My fondest memory is a half hour phone chat when she helped me sort 4 cuts for my Smooth Radio show in 2007, she was really interested and helpful, a delight to chat with. Judy sang lead on the superb WYNY cuts we did for the original GEM-AM in 1992.
This is very sad, my condolences to Tom…

The above picture is Futuresonic’s Veratiles vocal group from 1960. From Left to Right: Jodie Lyons, Brian Beck, Libba Weeks, Jerry Whitman and Judy Parma.
Rest in peace…
Really, looks like manga to me. Either that or she sung J-pop many years ago.. Rest in Peace.. Judy Parma. Keep singing in the heavens..

December 24, 2014 at 3:32 pm #96674IainJohnstonSorry to hear about Judy.
A beautiful voice, from the 60s through her & Tom’s TotalSound days to JAM and beyond.
December 24, 2014 at 4:57 pm #96677DuncanNewmarchMemberThis is very sad news, Judy’s memory will live on in all of those wonderful jingles
December 24, 2014 at 8:42 pm #96679radio_blokeMemberI don’t think the Jingle “voices” realise just how much they are respected, to our community they are bigger than the all the “pop” stars of the day.
SO sad to hear of another legend passing.
Thoughts with Tom and family.December 27, 2014 at 3:32 pm #96689michiMemberJon just announced the passing of Tom Parma. Christmas morning. May he rest in peace along with his lovely wife.
December 27, 2014 at 4:06 pm #96690Tracy CarmanMemberSo sad to learn of Tom’s passing. When I was in Dallas the month before the tribute to Tom Merriman (August 2008), Tom met me over at TM and presented me with two cartons of reels and assorted CDs. They were all that he and Judy had saved over the years from their association with all of the jingle companies, including the two of their own. When I asked him why they hadn’t saved more he commented that when you’re in the business you just don’t think about such things.
Another legacy family who were there at the beginning of the industry are sadly no longer with us. My thoughts this week have focused reflectively on family losses and getting through the holidays. Unfortunately this makes those thoughts more poignant.
My deepest condolences to the whole Parma family.

December 27, 2014 at 5:29 pm #96693LenGroatI saw this on Facebook and could not post on here as I was so upset…. lost for words. Even though it’s 20 years since I last actually met Judy & Tom I was just so sad – I’d always thought of them as the same age as me as they were such a vibrant couple.
December 27, 2014 at 5:39 pm #96694IanFMy condolences to the Parma family and friends at this sad time
December 27, 2014 at 8:14 pm #96698RobinBlamiresNot the happiest of news to return home to after my Xmas outing. A key part of JAM’s singing and arranging, holding together that unique vocal sound.
Condolences to the Parma family.

December 30, 2014 at 2:02 am #96708mjb1124MemberR.I.P. Tom and Judy. I’m still learning about all of the legendary names behind the jingles I love so much, but it’s clear from this thread that the Parma couple made a huge impact.
January 9, 2015 at 3:45 am #96776JAM / PAMSMemberAuthorThe memorial service for Tom and Judy Parma was held this afternoon in Dallas. At the conclusion I presented a printout of this Jinglemad thread, as well as the comments which have been posted to the JAM Facebook page, to their daughter to share with family. Thanks to all for the kind thoughts. -j
