More choice, more variety…of the same old same old on every commercial station everywhere …

“We are (insert one-sylable station name)”
“This is (insert one-sylable station name)”
Dumbed-down UK.
“Feed’em nothing but burgers and all they’ll want to eat is … burgers” as someone once said.Still, at least they’re Made in Britain! Hooray? yes? @-)
And they do get the core frequency in – but why must every package now all start every cut with a synthy logo to virtually the same “ADSR settings” (remember those?) as everyone else’s ? Can’t they get out of the “can only use the Presets” mode?Every station now (further) sounds the same. At least the tracks sound “funky”, but usually the “underneath bits” don’t get heard nowadays – but only SIX “main cuts”, all very “WB” but sound like what every other WB client has – and “other musical notes” ARE “available” on a piano keyboard if they have one for creating logos – or is this a “WB trademark logo” so people will always know the cuts are made by them?
April 8, 2014 at 3:50 pm #94025IainJohnstonSoorrrry – I think that should be “Bruno Mars” Not Olly Murs ?
(Even the “artistes” seem to have similar names…and sound the same when singing…)April 8, 2014 at 4:35 pm #94027miamigoIain,
I tried but didn’t make it to the end

Ouch!Well, I listened 3 times over before composing my “critique”!
(I never slag something off without at least having a “good listen” first!)PS – I’ve just sent a compilation of the old Jingles Factory bundle for Keri Jones’ Radio Scilly over to one of our number – and despite the “tracks integrity” matter with JF’s library, By Gawd musically they sound damn melodic and atmospheric compared with so much of “current product” from some other “sources”! (IMPO of course )
April 8, 2014 at 7:04 pm #94030LenGroatIain: I’m loathe to say much as I originally employed 2 of the people from the station but given their long-term radio pedigrees I’m sad GEM106 have ‘run with the herd’…
“Still, at least they’re Made in Britain! Hooray? yes?”
Not with me. WB are very ‘fashionable’ at present after getting the Radio 2 commission (after the ‘LA mob’ played up/ sans royalties of course) but these have very little variety and NOTHING new….
More importantly, I’m at a loss as to why they don’t have the ‘strapline’ on. This IS on their graphic attached to the Tweet featured the audio “Oh What A Feeling” – if it’s good enough to be a strapline, why not co-ordinate and sing it on the jingles!?
HATE to say it…. but Reelworld’s new jingles for Celador/ ‘The Breeze’ have more track variety, more lyric variety, and a better vocal sound, but neither package is great.

I KNOW these jingle companies try hard (and I’m NOT in the demographic) but surely in a VERY competitive market more INDIVIDUALITY is called for?
