Hello. I’m visiting Dallas on a kind of jingle pilgrimage. Here are some images from three rather well-known places of jingle interest that I visited today. I may have some video and audio footage later in the week.

…but JAM “do” balsa wood “promotional” aeroplanes ??? !!!
Have good time there Geoff
February 17, 2014 at 10:20 am #93380SeanMartinHave an awesome jingle-trek, Geoff. Looking forward to ‘seeing and hearing’ more of your trip
February 17, 2014 at 11:43 am #93381LenGroatThanks for the great quality images! I spent some of my best ‘radio years’ there in Dallas between ’88 and ’92, and the sessions at JAM were truly magical.
February 17, 2014 at 12:29 pm #93382Jim DonahueHope you’re having a great time in Heaven!
February 17, 2014 at 12:31 pm #93383IainJohnstonHere’s a really long shot…
Whats the chances of ratnob doing a LIVE “Bob Dinan PodCast” direct from a JAM Personal Cut session in progress, via Sky*pe or something?
And there’s surely no way Geoff would visit JAM and not have something arranged with Jon to have done for him while he’s actually in the studio? We’re talking one huge jingle anorak here with Geoff!
“We have the technology Captain !!!!”
February 17, 2014 at 1:23 pm #93390ratnobMemberAuthorThanks for all the interest. I have now written a rambling kind of blog, which I’ll try to update each day. This first one includes a piece of audio that I think you will find amazing.
Enjoy, as they say:

February 17, 2014 at 2:13 pm #93391Tracy CarmanMemberI hope you’re having fun down there. What’s in 4141 these days? The last time I ventured by the building was when Neal and I sorted through the Thompson archives.
February 17, 2014 at 2:20 pm #93392ratnobMemberAuthorHard to tell. Yesterday a light was on; there was a receptionist; no but signage, nothing to hint at what the building was actually used for. There was an easel visible through a darkened window, but more than that I couldn’t tell.
February 17, 2014 at 2:31 pm #93393scotronMemberWhat an experience you are having Geoff. Look forward to the rest of this magical journey. Loved Jon playing that R1 jingle intro on ‘ THE’ very piano used on the session.
February 17, 2014 at 2:35 pm #93394jonnoMemberimpromptu jam session on the piano :-bd
February 17, 2014 at 3:17 pm #93395IainJohnston[[ speechless] !!!
And “New York 97” on THAT piano… Sounds superb as those clear, complex chords
I feel “an edit” coming on…February 17, 2014 at 4:03 pm #93396gameswizardMemberI thoroughly enjoyed the audio >
I could definitely listen to more of that.
February 17, 2014 at 4:08 pm #93397professor1036Fantastic stuff Geoff…glad you’re having a good time!
February 17, 2014 at 4:16 pm #93399RobinBlamiresThat’s incredible! There was recently a Radio 4 documentary series called “Piano Pilgrimage” and this would have been a nice overseas attachment.
Was it really recorded on an iPhone?
February 17, 2014 at 4:24 pm #93400bossjockMemberAs our American friends would say “awesome”. When Jon played the opening notes from that classic Radio 1 jingle it gave me goosebumps :-bd
February 17, 2014 at 4:24 pm #93401ratnobMemberAuthorMore audio to follow from our visits yesterday to Insurance Lane, 4141 Office Parkway and Parkdale Drive. Some of the audio is a bit quiet.
Off out for today’s phase of the pilgrimage (I might call it Phase II, but that’s so seventies!).
Thanks for all your kind comments.
February 17, 2014 at 4:58 pm #93405LenGroatI did indeed find the audio amazing – what an unexpected treat, so good of Jon to share.
I did ask about 18 months ago if the ‘New York 97’ song was available (just the second half on my budget) but sadly it was just too big a project as it would need a lot of work to bring the original recording up to the high standards Jon insists on.
February 17, 2014 at 7:42 pm #93407DuncanWell done Geoff, what a great peice of audio. I’m sure we’d all love to do what you’re doing right now- enjoy it
February 17, 2014 at 8:51 pm #93409bland75MemberNice piece of audio Geoff – really insightful and thanks for sharing it with us.
Enjoy the rest of your trip. I, like many others here, are very jealous !
Cheers, Paul.
February 17, 2014 at 8:55 pm #93410IainJohnstonHaving “experimented” today with Jon’s impromptu piano NY97 audio there, it astounds me that out of all the thousands of cuts he’s been involved with over the years, he can walk up to the piano and not only play those rich chords note-for-note (almost! ), but he has the “tempo” so incredibly close to the actual cuts that I was able to very closely “match” the vocal mixouts of my own NY97 personal cut to his audio there without any time-stretching pitch-bending or other “digital trickery”.
I won’t post the “resulting mix” here, after all the original piano “session” is Geoff’s own “exclusive”, but to say that JMW has a “Good Ear” would be a complete & utter understatement!
Looking fowards to more of the blog Geoff!
PS – is “Phase II” of the visit a subtle hint that you’re next going to a certain other well-known studio “across town”
February 18, 2014 at 7:06 am #93414Jeffrey T. MasonMemberI’m certainly not trying to usurp the spotlight from Geoff/Bob. But, nearly ten years ago, the late David Barras, Neal Bowden and I visited JAM…and there are some pics and even video. IF you’re interested, of course. May be neat to see how things have (or have not) changed!
February 18, 2014 at 8:11 am #93415ratnobMemberAuthorNearly ten years ago, the late David Barras, Neal Bowden and I visited JAM…
http://jeffreyt.com/JAM.htmlDead right – and you’ve put a great resource together, JTM.
Here’s my brief blog for yesterday, plus an interview with JMW in the ‘vault’.

February 18, 2014 at 12:45 pm #93416ratnobMemberAuthorHigher resolution images from Office Parkway and Insurance Lane now added:

I’ve substantially updated the blog, including a lot of new audio (the early stuff is low volume – I hadn’t quite worked out how this new-fangled mp3 recorder works. Sorry).
http://www.bobdinan.co.uk/Blog/Jingle_Podcast/Entries/2014/2/17_Bobs_Jingle_Pilgrimage.html
Of special note: the ‘Studio B’ audio includes JMW answering my stupid question by playing the WABC logo.
