I’m sure there’s been a similar named montage in the past, but here’s a selection of jingles from Standard Sound/MMI
Never quite sure what was produced under each name; I’m sure Neal will be able to clear that up ?
October 18, 2013 at 8:24 am #69437IainJohnstonI believe it was referred to as …er… “Muff Diving”….
October 22, 2013 at 1:54 am #69319jinglejoeMemberGreat!!! Thanx for posting some of Muff’s stuff, which is basically unknown here in the U.S. Please pot more, if U can.

October 22, 2013 at 9:37 am #69259rakMemberI’m amazed Dain Blair at Grooveaddicts didn’t take them to court for the blatant Capital ’89 ‘”’80s Hits on Sunday” rip-off at 0’58”!!!
October 22, 2013 at 3:04 pm #69212jonnoMemberAuthorhaha! thought it sounded familiar
Also just noticed the bug in the Soundcloud player. Check out the duration of this montage!
October 22, 2013 at 3:39 pm #69213gameswizardMemberIt’s not just the duration.
If you watch the time in the player, it counts 0.57, 0.58, 0.59, 0.60/1.00, 1.01 or 1.57, 1.58, 1.59, 1.60/2.00, 2.01 etc…October 22, 2013 at 4:12 pm #69199amigoMemberI’m amazed Dain Blair at Grooveaddicts didn’t take them to court for the blatant Capital ’89 ‘”’80s Hits on Sunday” rip-off at 0’58”!!!
I seem to recall Groove using clips of the Muff “Hot Rocking” and “Great music for a great city” cuts in the Capital 2002(ish) package.
Plus aren’t both cuts (Killer & Muff) adapted from Donna Summer’s “This Tme I Know It’s For Real”

Thanx!

October 27, 2013 at 2:47 am #92116jinglejoeMemberAmigo, thanks for the Murfin stuff; you certainly did share some packages. Much appreciated.
Always wanted to hear some Murfin stuff. Several years ago I actually called their offices in the UK from NYC.(TM had given me the number; it was Standard Sound I called). The folks there were so nice and genuinely overwhelmed that someone would call all the way from the US for a jingle demo. They assured me that a CD would be “winging its way” over to me shortly. And it did. However the demo was a UK issue of the CD TM was just sending out. So, no Standard Sound packages.
I met Muff twice, at two different NAB shows here in the US. Never mentioned to him that story. He was great to talk to; a real gentleman too.
jrcOctober 27, 2013 at 9:07 am #92117jonnoMemberAuthorRich, thanks for sharing those! Plenty I’d not heard before. Interesting my Touch package is sung as Touch Radio. Did they re-brand at some point?
October 27, 2013 at 1:43 pm #92118amigoMemberYes Touch AM became Touch Radio in 1994 after we did some research and discovered that some listeners thought that we were only on in the morning!

November 1, 2013 at 9:47 am #92186rakMemberThanks for posting the latest batch of Muff montages, Amigo.
I couldn’t believe the change between the first two Red Dragon packages. The first one is excellent. Not quite sure about the second one, and some of the 1989 stuff onwards. It’s as if there was a Golden era for UK produced Standard Sound from around 1982 (City/Clyde/Wyvern/BRMB etc) through to Capital/Aire in the mid ’80s.
Things did get a lot better again with the brilliant Liberty package, which is sheer class!
November 1, 2013 at 12:51 pm #92187amigoMemberRak – I agree but I think it depends on who is comissioning the work and what they want the package to sound like. The second Red Dragon package was fitting for the sound of pop music at the time (imagine those jingles being played around PWL hits). I love the Downtown Radio packages, the musical melody for the station is very memorable. The Red Dragon package from 1994 was very AC leaning, with the 1996 ones very in-your-face and energy-driven.

November 1, 2013 at 1:00 pm #92188amigoMember…also on the Wish FM package…..there were a couple of Jam cuts that sounded like they had been re-worked so I included them. Does anyone know whether they were redone by Jam/Alfa or MPT? Also I’d like to hear the story about the choice to launch with both Jam & MPT jingles at the same time.
Amigo
November 1, 2013 at 2:08 pm #92189rakMemberIt’s interesting doing a bit of Googling about MPT, who turn out to be Merriman, Patrick & Turner, aka Regal Studios. Were they doing a version of some JAM KIIS ’90 cuts??? Can’t find much about the company at all, other than a few archive posts on Jinglemad.
Back to Downtown, they had some great packages in the 1980s. Does anyone have a demo of the package (may have been just before/after the 1985 one that Amigo posted) – has cuts like “The Magic FM – Downtown 96”, and a fab weather cut that ends with a very fast “1026 Music”. Would love to hear a good copy of that package.
November 1, 2013 at 3:24 pm #92190Mark_PaxtonMemberAs there’s a Muff phase going on, i’ve uploaded a short montage of some Northern Air jingles done around 89/90 – Re-sings of Clyde’s 1983 package.
November 1, 2013 at 3:44 pm #92192Mark_PaxtonMember..and some Red Rose from ’89
November 1, 2013 at 3:57 pm #92193rakMemberThanks for posting the Northern Air cuts. Must have sounded great on hospital radio in Manchester, probably better than what was on a lot of Broadcast stations at the time!

You’re welcome. Yeh i remember being impressed with these at the time and they still sound good. Now which hospital station had Jam jingles in the late 80’s?
