I’ve been ‘hanging my nose’ over Omni-Trax for years, having bought some cuts for Trent in 1991, and at last have ‘taken the plunge’. The package has some of my favourite JAM tracks: the f-s, s-f cuts have superb transitions, the melodies/ strings are GREAT, + the ‘bells’ echo the logo, they are ‘tight & bright’.
I prefer the Magic 106 versions to the WENS demo, but there were also great versions for Century, Ireland. It’s a GEM of a package…… so I took the plunge..
(oops .. THANKS CDW ………… that’s ANOTHER jingle I’ve got.. THIS IS from WNBC !!! Thanks )
Len Groat ‘Happiness Is 60s Cafe’ on JAM Omni trax by Len Groat
This is only 99% perfect, I’ll explain why later
July 13, 2013 at 1:44 pm #90747cdwilke85Great jingle, however this is not from Omni-Trax, it’s actually WNBC The Only One.

WNBC New York, NY – JAM “The Only One” DJ Cut – Wolfman Jack by MPF One Minute MontagesJuly 13, 2013 at 5:45 pm #90751LenGroatThanks TC ~ I must have been having a ‘Heatwave / Z Warp” moment (or 10) when I wrote the caption!
We had the WNBC ‘Only One’ #5 at Trent for our FM breakfast dj’s in ’91-92. Now, completely re-lyriced with the PAMS ‘Happiness Is’ phrase it’s 99% perfect for 2013. I’ll add the 100% perfect version later….
July 13, 2013 at 6:14 pm #90754AndyWMemberJuly 13, 2013 at 6:56 pm #90755mbMemberThe JAM Radio WM imaging was the best they ever had. The station sounded bright and lively. The packages following have always been rather dull and pedestrian.
July 13, 2013 at 8:35 pm #90756UKJinglesMemberTotally agree Michael…and boy… wasn’t it a BIG Package!
July 13, 2013 at 9:14 pm #90758LenGroatPete: “wasn’t it a BIG Package!”
I agree!
I wonder why it is that if (the giant) Radio 2 can use the SAME basic sound for 12 years,….. other Beeb/ I(L)R stations do not hang on to GREAT old JAM packages for the same number of years !?
But (musically) ‘ Lunchtimemusicandnews’ ….
….is rather crammmmmed on the WM cut!
July 13, 2013 at 10:19 pm #90760AndyWMemberThey did add to it several times. They just never stopped using the older ones. There were at least a few of the ’88 ones still in use in 2001. The abandonment of cart machines in favour of Radioman finally saw the end of the Jam era. They are still looked on fondly by staff who remember them. They last got an airing for WM’s 40th in November 2011.
July 13, 2013 at 11:24 pm #90761StarbrelzMemberHere’s one of WOWO’s versions of the DJ cut.

July 13, 2013 at 11:42 pm #90763StarbrelzMemberJuly 14, 2013 at 1:11 am #90765mbMemberAnd of course from the perfectly sung County Sound Premier Radio package – I dunno why but there are some packages where the vocals really shine even more than usual and this was one of them.
July 14, 2013 at 1:24 am #90766mbMemberMore WM versions
July 14, 2013 at 11:59 am #90767LenGroatThanks for all the versions – Mike Powell certainly LOVED a mass of lyric variations!
This particular cut just lives on………… a perfect mix of melody, bells, ‘synth glides’
MB: “I dunno why but there are some packages where the vocals really shine even more than usual”. My theory is that if the client is in the studio during the vocal sessions the singers get to know them and an extra ‘personality’ might develop in thesound ~ not always.. but sometimes.
This is what I call our “100% version” ~ you’ll HEAR why !
‘Happiness Is 60s Cafe’ on ‘The Only One’ #5 – Suprise version! by Len Groat
July 14, 2013 at 12:49 pm #90768IainJohnstonAttaboy Len!
Another convert to the approach of maximising mixout potential by ordering one’s JAM Personal Cuts in both group AND sono vocals “alternative versions”, for just a few bob more!
And it gives more life to “older” JAM cuts by them being “performed” in a way they’ve never been done before.
July 14, 2013 at 4:12 pm #90776mjb1124MemberGreat cut – I love hearing sonovox on cuts where you wouldn’t expect it. Really fits the track and enhances it in this case.
July 14, 2013 at 9:08 pm #90781ratnobMemberLen
Love it! If my maths wasn’t so limited, I’d say this is 110%.
July 14, 2013 at 10:18 pm #90785dianablanton1984MemberYou surprised me Len with that “100%” version (with Sonovox!!!)
July 14, 2013 at 10:20 pm #90786AndyWMemberI’m sure there was a WM version that went’ There’s Only One Place For Music & Conversation’ too. They had hundreds of versions of that cut that ended BBC Radio WM, BBC Midlands Radio and they even managed to fit BBC Coventry & Warwickshire in at one stage when it was an opt out of WM. In fact there are so many versions that it was possible to edit three versions together to end up with just the music track. Ref: Paul Brighton who featured in Michaels clip. Unfortunately he suffered a brain aneurism a few weeks ago and is currently in Birmingham’s QE hospital.
July 15, 2013 at 10:30 am #90798UKJinglesMemberExcellent cut “re-sonovoxed”
JAM definately produces the best sonovox and doesn’t Jon voice most (if not all) of the sonovox?July 15, 2013 at 11:22 am #90799martinlesterMemberI am 100% Sure Jon does all of the Sonovox , and Jon is the best sonovox voice in the business
Len your cut sounds great and have to agree it is 100% Perfect !
July 15, 2013 at 12:08 pm #90800LenGroatGosh 23 comments on this topic in mid-summer! A testament to the long-term quality/durability of Jon’s product, the singers, and the superb Sonovox (yes Jon does it all…) When a jingle ‘works’ on a BBC local, a huge US station, a UK commercial station, and DECADES later an internet station, it shows that quality endures!
I was fortunate to notice another version in a post on here, in which the central part of the track is extended into a donut pad, and ‘for just a few dollars more’ Jon did the honours and replicated this for our version. So as well as a jingle, we have an ‘establisher’ that will be used on the hour and half hour of the show (with v/o on it of course), and by ‘putting the cart before the horse’ (+ a subtle twist)…. we end up with THIS version!
July 15, 2013 at 2:12 pm #90801IainJohnston“Jon is the best sonovox voice in the business”
Seconded! with Ken Justiss when in his prime not far behind, and Steve England definately the best non-USA proponent of the “art” (even if he “hated it at 2-30 in the morning! “
July 16, 2013 at 8:01 pm #90806m_hodgeyMemberExcellent choice of cut Len, especially with the Sonovox variations. This is one JAM cut that has been high on the list of possible candidates for future Personal Cuts for some time.
The first time I ever heard this cut was on BBC Radio York…..
